The Coachella Valley Music Festival announced its line-up for 2009 today, and I am disappointed. Coachella used to have dance music headliners like Tiesto and Daft Punk in previous years, but the festival has taken a different approach lately. When I'm at Coachella, I'm in the Sahara tent 95% of the time, but even that seems to be sabotaged this year. The only day that looks mildly entertaining is Saturday, with the help of MSTRKRFT, Crookers, and the Bloody Beetroots. So will I be going to Coachella this year? I don't know the answer yet, but I can tell you now I will be making most of my preparations for Ultra.
Wolfgang Gartner has become a production powerhouse lately, releasing at least one track a month. I was checking his myspace page today to see how the track "Yin" was doing and I was surprised to see that he already uploaded a new track. "Push and Rise" puts daft-punk-like vocals into a killer electro track, making it pure gold from the start. Since Wolfgang Gartner is a friend and supporter of THREE ONE OH! unfortunately I cannot post the 320kbps versions of these tracks. These 160kbps versions serve as promotion for when they drop in upcoming months.
[S.co only bumps the illest 'Three One Oh!' certified tracks!]
I'm in love with this sound, this sweet, dirty, powerful synth just f*cking blows my mind. I mean, I recommend tracks, and will post tracks by themselves, but this track really deserves the attention. The synth in this track is the apitemy of what I think is the "Sickest Bassline Ever", tracks like D. Ramirez's mix of Bodyrox - Yeah Yeah have a similar synth in it, D. Ramirez's mix actually has been preached as being the "Best Synth Bassline of All Time", check out the article here. This track is ill as fuck! Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, I LOVE this sound. Tiko's Groove is da sh*t.
I've been enjoying Tommy Trash's tunes for about the last year and a half or so, and I've played them time to time ( in 07' his remix of Armand Van Helden's I Want Your Soul was my favorite of the E.P. even more so then TV Rock's mix) but he never would have made my top 100 DJ/Producer/Artist's list... Now, WITHOUT A DOUBT this guy would be there. His productions are just getting cleaner and smoother almost every month it seems. He's bumping out smooth and melodic progressive tracks, and big room electro house tracks with thumbing basslines and powerful synths. His remix if House Of Pain's Jump Around is nothing less than epic. We've all heard Deadmau5's remix, Stupid Fresh's remix, Micky Slim's Remix, and even though I've heard them before in a club, I've never played any of them. They were attempts to infuse a mainstream song into a electro house track, without paying attention that the electro house part still has to be ill enough on its own to be enjoyed. This is it! Sucha dope track, bump'd it last night @ Apple for a mainstream crowd and everyone went nuts. Bravo Tommy boy!
[The Bloody Beetroots had a break-out year in 2008]
I've been listening to some of the new Bloody Beetroots stuff, and It's so different from their old style (which is good in my opinion) and into the direction of very dark, dark music. I can't decide If I'm into it or not... Hands Up is the better of the two tracks in my opinion, but then again I can't even make my mind up if I like it or not, so my opinion doesn't matter yet.
Ahhh 2009 is upon us, and I'm ready to make it a memorable one. 2009, amoungst other things, will be THE RISE OF S.CO!!! So much dope new shit, masterful producer DJ DLG, fresh DJ Kue, and last but not least a redic remix of Daft Punk. Here's your weekly fix, Enjoy!
